Book Review #18: "Just the Intern" by Sakshi Kiran

“Just The Intern” is totally a bang-on read for all the interns out there. It has fun, drama, struggles, confusion, guilt, deadlines, pressure, youth age, corporate rules and so much more.

The author has perfectly scribbled her journey with a tint of fictional scenarios, to make this piece a guide to impeccable lifestyle.

There are tremendous amount of details, which Sakshi has put in this book:

  • Struggles of internship: It’s not easy to be an intern. The dilemma of handling the pressure of learning everything at once, and enjoying the initial phase of a career is accurately shown. This book presented you with the realization of how one has to manage personal and professional life. It includes handling judgmental looks, lack of confidence, overtime works, deadlines and more

  • Small town atrocities: In some sections of the book, the author had demonstrated how a middle class family lives and grows with the world. How these families coordinate with each other in terms of life decisions and career goals.

  • Feminism: Sakshi had also spinned the ball of feminism in one or the other way. Be it assignment of work load or the qualitative approach of it, appropriate writing did justice to the scenes.

  • Glimpse of ancient references: There was also the presence of ancient touch-ups and knowledge of many historical events. It surely was not relevant, but it definitely added up the acknowledgement of the author's interest throughout.

  • Seek of Validation: The main bomb of everything was the ultimate seek of validation from the seniors, for interns. It totally did a fair deal with the general conceptions.

Talking about the writing style, it is crisp and properly elaborated. Sakshi has used various figures of speech to match with the references, like kites with so many holes, rat traps etc. I liked the fact that she stuck to one motto and explained it with all the possible instances.

Must read for all the interns and non-interns around. Do check the side-tracked perception of least-paid employees!
