Book review #41: The Unwanted Boy and Other Stories by Charmila M Sankar

“The Unwanted Boy and Other Stories” is a collection of 11 short stories. The stories revolve around the unspoken emotions and feelings, unexpected twists, predestined happenings of real lives and more.

As this collection of weaved stories is a debut book for Charmila M Sankar, I must say she has done a quite commendable job in delivering the unheard tales of mundane lives. She has not only showcased the little things of human’s actions, but also curated a perfect dependence on somatic sensation.

All the stories are so interrelated and yet very different from each other. Also, it’s very confusing to hold the grip at first, because initially the story doesn’t make sense, be it the imaginative part or the reality part. But as soon as you proceed to other stories, then you may get the gist of the last one, or the essence through it is saying the actual pain or sufferings in most silent ways.

I also wonder why the author has opted for the title “The Unwanted Boy and Other stories”, as I find other stories way better well presented than this particular one. But again, it is my opinion.

Every story has some pedagogy buried under the shelf. From raising voice for the biological-injustice, the hopeless love for the never ending acknowledgement, the caring resemblance of motherly affection, the ignored bliss of relationships, the hidden facts behind the uniform wearing slaves, the evergreen love for children, the scars which have so many fearless thoughts, the selfless revolution towards the better future of this world, the scary-night thoughts after holding so much frustration within, to the heavenly plans for everyone in one or other ways, the author has knitted a wonderful fabric of notions and flavor of existence of life.

This book is short-read and can be completed in just one go.Also the writing style is very crisp and has hidden content, if you look closely.
