Book review #45 : Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty

There’s a constant fight between the perception of what we know and what we should know more, that we often ignore the fact of reading self-help books. People often get bored or don’t connect for long run with self-help genres. They either pick it up when they feel there’s a need to change something for good in their lives or they want to get motivated. But it is a very important journey of learning and implementing throughout, as we all know “Life is a journey, not a destination”. Before writing this review, I was skeptical of what I should write about a book which people already know(even though they don't  follow). Then I got an intellectual suggestion from my partner that “you should write what YOU like about this book, how this book is different from other self-help books, why should anyone pick this masterpiece over billions of other books?”. And this, this small piece of information was although basic one but made me think of the fact that why I picked it in the first place?

I generally get appealed to the people/places/books/music/foods/conversations/movies which have a personal essence to it. And that’s why I think I find Jay Shetty’s life as a personal lesson to the world.

The book “Think Like A Monk” is nothing special that you have never heard of. But he has put life into the words by living the suggestions first and then recommending them to others. He had lived the life of monk, understood the variations of survival through different perceptions, and even after not continuing the “tag” of Monk life, he continued his “Dharma” by spreading the knowledge in the best ways possible.

This book is divided into three sections - “Let Go”, “Grow” and “Give”.  Every section is to the point, with practices to carry out for more exposures, famous observations and experiments done by various researchers, and most importantly illustrious quotations/sayings by famous people. Because of this approach, you will not only relate instances with you deeply, but also go with the flow of renditioning your style.

Writing style is very simple and easy to understand. This adds cherry on the top for bringing more audience in the zone of reading it freely.

I don’t want to brag about this book so much, instead I would recommend please go through the pointers that the author has precisely jotted down and you will surely gain something exceptional.
