Can generative AI replace human writers?
There are a ton of blogs by now on the trending topic “Generative AI”. Some will show you the details by taking help from one of them, and some will provide you with the straight facts. I am trying something new this time and will try to write for those who are still scared/naïve of this hard-to-not-notice thing.
Let’s start this revolutionary topic with a simple example. Imagine the era when there were no medicines, and people used to die at a very young age because of mere diseases. With the evolution of healthcare facilities, humans started to live longer. At that stage, the main concern was if the population is increasing, how will the survival needs be fulfilled? But with advancement in healthcare, came the technology of automated farming and latest yields. At that point of time, the main fear was how humans will survive and with time it got resolved with better results. Imagine the era when only men used to work and go to offices. Women were meant to take care of family, and they didn't earn money or had sufficient education. With a broader mindset, they started to be literate and joined men in their working world equally. No doubt, it must have scared all the gender-specific community, regarding the shortage of jobs. But tell me, how is the ratio now? We have tremendous opportunities for not only men or women, but also for all LGBT+ communities.
So, treat Generative AI too in a positive way, as it is just a step towards something better than today. There might be few ups and downs in leveraging everything that AI has to offer, but trust me, if you compare them, pros will be shining far more than cons. I am not an expert to comment on the things what future holds for us in the AI universe, but I am hopeful for the upgrading our lives.
Generative AI involves using machine learning algorithms to create realistic and coherent outputs based on raw data and training data. In common man’s language, it eases our job by providing necessary details so that we will focus mainly on creative part that makes us stand out from the rest of the world. But it’s important to note that while generative AI can be a valuable tool, it should be used responsibly and ethically. Users must ensure that the generated content is accurate, reliable, fact-checked, and compliant with journalistic standards.
How should we use it? So, in technical terms, “The better the prompt, the better the output.”. But if you still don’t understand, try to treat any generative AI tool (such as ChatGPT, Bard etc.) as a personal intern for yourself. Suppose you have asked him/her – “Bring me coffee”. Your intern will bring any coffee, which has more sugar and is less hot. You will surely be disappointed because it's not as per your taste. But you can’t blame him/her, as the job is done by bringing coffee. Here's the main job for you now. You must specify the little details to your intern so that you will get the perfect result i.e., “Bring me Cappuccino, from XYZ shop. Ask them to put only one teaspoon of sugar and make it extra hot as I like it that way.” Boom! Are you happy now? Now if you analyze, whose mistake was earlier? It was you, who didn’t mention the specifics to the intern. That’s what any generative AI tool does. It follows your instructions, line by line. So, the best way to use them is to provide the customized and creative details, which will make your thoughts clear to the audience.
Now comes the main concern, can generative AI replace human writers?
If you ask me, I will scream out loud in capital-and-bold speech – NEVER! No one can replace human writers. Humans are made of bones and souls, souls which carry so many small details of facts and fictions. We are the carriers of instincts and feelings. We are the power of convincing and manipulating anyone with our powerful attitude. I can never imagine a world where robots will wipe our tears and write poetries which have my memories in it. Generative AI can write brilliantly anything undoubtedly, but it can’t put the personalized feeling or forte of the author. It can’t identify the style of someone’s dreams. So, don’t panic with the evolutional of AI. Human writers will always be cherished for their massive contribution to the world.
Let me know what's your take on generative AI?

Very neatly expressed Rashmi!
ReplyDeleteThe way you elaborate every technological term by giving simple and real life example is really very worthy of appreciation. Your approach towards AI is really fabulous and appropriate. Thank you for providing us a valuable and real approach towards AI.
ReplyDeleteAll thanks to you that we had some fab discussions on AI many times and I strongly say that generative AI can never replace human writers. AI lacks common sense. I have read content by AI as well tried using the AI to generate content and both times my reaction was awful. We humans write with emotions, empathy, and social norms in mind but AI has nothing. Humor and sarcasm are 2 of my favourite spices which I always look in an article/tweet/blog/social media content and this AI cannot generate as I have tried myself and only a human can do this. I am not against completely being depended on machines, technology but if used properly, they are useful otherwise on a big scale nothing beats a human brain.
