Book review #16 : "The Acting MD" by Vikram Mankal

Image
“The Acting MD” is a representation of perfect storyline of today’s lifestyle and unhinged generation’s business tactics. This book will take you to the grand theatres of day-to-day life, its pros and cons of adapting in work culture, and most importantly, the urge to follow passion within your reach. Vikram Mankal, the author, has perfectly balanced his knowledge in the field of construction sectors and stage performances in this book. He has depicted story plots exactly suited for trending web series, and fabulously maintained each character’s role with twists and dramas. Selection of main characters are apt and presented with physical and behavioral minute details. Talking about the story, it is more likely the similar stories of Bollywood but with few mended actions and personal touch. Undoubtedly, the proportion of characters’ role are demonstrated to the point, e.g Avinash Rai’s fatherly and top-notch figure, Pranav Rai’s mixed but responsible status, and more. Also, I ...

Ghar Wapsi

Image
I remember when I had to leave home for the first time. I had big plans, and I was not at all frightened. I was so excited to see the new world, people across the places, how they live, how they function, everything. But I never knew, I was running in circles. Now I think I understand how blood relations work! Parents know the extent of spice you like in baigan ka bharta, never try to bother you on pity family problems, always give you extra pocket money after cutting from their daily needs, and always treasure the telepathy bonds selflessly. Why? Just because you are working? Just because you must be busy doing supernatural work? Isn’t it beyond the AI’s processing? I sometimes wonder, do we really deserve our family? That family, who never shares their mental health, so that children’s growth won’t be hindered. That family, who never demands a fair share of returns, they invested in you. That family, who still considers you a child, even though you are 28 or 38 or 58! Ghar Waps...

What we want!

Image
What we want is just a mere conception of unplanned priorities. Like the untangled strings of guitar, I want to set my chords with the lyrical beauty of life. Akin to the terror of expectations, I want to blast the bubble of similar anticipated patterns. Amidst the evergreen chaos, I want to nurture peace beyond the sanity of perfection. Across the dreamy horizons, I want to settle for less with family and friends. What we want is just a mere question of following trending freedom. For more, follow on instagram

Book Review #14: "Eat That Frog! Action Workbook: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time" by Brian Tracy

Image
A kickstart dopamine booster for the soul. Brian Tracy has explained such important aspects of life, that can be implemented in any field of work. Whether you are a businessman, a student, a laborer, a 9-5 job seeker, a scientist, an influencer, and even more, all 21 ways that the author summarized, are enough to mold a healthy perspective. I liked the fact that this book is simple, and yet so powerful. One liners, the famous quotes and real-time examples make this a master piece of embracing procrastination, creatively and effectively. Must read for all age, or I should say, one should re-read this book every now and then to have better reminders in life. For more, follow me on goodreads

Book Review #13: "The Courage to Be Disliked: How to Free Yourself, Change your Life and Achieve Real Happiness" by Ichiro Kishimi, Fumitake Koga

Image
I don't know how much I have related to this book, but one thing was sure that it has right motto, but failed to deliver the aspects in practical ways. Although everything was conversation, but it seemed like a tight slap on youth, every time he tries to be relevant. Philosopher has rightly put many aspects, like illusion caused by change in environment, science of contribution, don't fall for life-lie, separation of tasks, listen to the voice of larger community, method of raising by rebuke or praise, affirmative recognition, etc. He surely wants to be practical and logical in every terms, which is by far, can be understood. But for a normal person, living with friends and family, doing a job, aiming for promotions and goals, are all they want and need. Philosopher is being nihilistic, as stated by Youth, because it literally impossible to live life on logical terms. As said by Philosopher, life is series of dots, not line. One has to go through everything, rather than dire...

Book Review #12: "Our Non-fairy Tale Life" by Rooprashi

Image
This book is perfect combination of life's phases, and the individual's way of handling it. Author has definitely maintained the loops of relations around, in fantastic way. I am not a big fan of love stories, but the essence of a different prospect of love literally creates a fresh start of any beginning. Story revolves around mainly two characters, Daksh and Nandini. There are also side characters, and everyone has their own unique role to contribute, which I liked the most. The plot, emotional barriers, professional bugs, societal pressure and responsibilities, serene love, friendship, everything did the justice to the story. I also appreciate the fact that author has pointed the sensitive issue of suicide. There are many illustration in the book where words certainly acted a dose of meditation to the soul. Talking about the way of writing, its very lucid and coherent, but I believe it is somewhere overelaborated. Overall, a nice pick for new readers and for those who are ...

Book Review #11: "The Woman Within" by Nitya Ravi

Image
This is total mixture of young adult contemporary thriller fiction. Story revolves around many characters,  where everyone is living their life, doing nothing interesting or suspicious. Though somewhere it shows a little complex aura, where thriller genre takes care of immense twists and turns. No doubt author has created a sane level of feminist background. Author raised so many biased questions, which is so common in this men dominated world. She has digged down the recipe of promising world for women. She maintains the balance of suspense and the realization of gender inequalities. Talking about the writing, author has tremendously used all figure of speech required for twists and shocking elements. Writing is very lucid and good for beginner readers. Book Review #10: "Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe" (Aristotle and Dante, #1) by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

Image
I can't thank enough stars to make me dive into the secrets of universe, of Aristotle and Dante. This piece is simply magnificent. It's not like author has created a different world of classic romance, but he simply put the thought of being in love, a scary and yet most heartwarming feeling. I adored many things in Benjamin's writing and this book: * Characters. No one can portray better role than Dante and Aristotle, for the kind of mystery author was trying to reveal. Their parents were so normal parents. Just like us. No salt or pepper on the verge of care and punishments. I loved specially Mrs. Quintana. She was really a tough soul, and a cherry on the cake. And of course, Legs! * Dreams. This big problems of society are generally forced to hide away. No one talks about it openly, how one feels when one sees a bad dream. How it chokes the tenderness of mind, its imagination, and most important, memories. Dreams play a major role in living life. Little that the author ...

Book Review #9: "A Place Called Home" by Meenu Annadurai, Yashika Karamchandini

Image
This book is an amalgamation of curated love and realities. You can never be enough for those who don't matter, and you are everything for the one who means world to you. Whole summary hits you with today's societal pressures and constrained responsibility. This book gives you goosebumps of first love, of heart breaks, of new start, and of predictable endings. Both authors have precisely understood the values of families, and doodled words with lovely presentation. I liked the fact that two stories are entwined so beautifully, that they are meant to be Home, a proper tribute to the title of this book. Characters are clear, true to life, warm toned and full of every days-truth. Few of my favorites excerpts are: "You don’t find love; love finds you and at the most unexpected of times and in the most unexpected person" "Grieving or feeling pity about oneself is not gonna bring any difference to reality" A warm short read for those who love to live, and live t...

Book Review #8 : "Papercut" by Kshitij Anand, Sudarsan Nagarajan

Image
Papercut, a detective piece, is written by Kshitij Anand and Sudarsan Nagaraja. Title itself was enough to start this book right away. The story, blurry plots, aura of Arson, detailed investigations, everything is to the point and abstract. Author has maintained both the back stories and suspense in line. Numbers started dialing when Vanessa, a forgotten famed detective, appeared onscreen with fishy Bollywood's sad flashbacks. Her way of interrogating cases, and dealing with suspects are somewhat unique and rude. But the story doesn't revolve around only on these patterns. A fire incident happened at under-construction building. It took a messy turn while investigation, when it joined the dots of an ongoing probable case of missing girl. I liked the perspicuous writing style of author, which gives more exposure to the common audiences. Author has fabulously held the grip on tenterhooks. I found few statements quite intriguing in this book, below are some of them: *...

Book Review #7: "The Manila Envelope" by Spriha Mathur

Image
I loved everything about this book. Storyline is perfect. Both authors have tremendously curated their professional skills into their writings, and hence it emerged like a fine wine. Firstly, I liked the fact about the generic cause this book has created. There are innumerable reasons, one never knows or never try to understand the real mistakes one makes in his/her life. This story has revealed the dark scars and beautiful amalgamation of love and sacrifices. It definitely displayed last wish importance, and how it soothe everything with perfect intellects. Secondly, I loved how different cultures, surroundings, specialties, nature and more, were demonstrated by showcasing Indian places i.e Rishikesh, Lucknow and Kolkata. Authors have thoroughly inscribed the pure essence of places and its significance through minute details. Any traveler would love the way, through which one has to open up beyond places. I personally enjoyed the storyline, and it's presentation. Writing st...

Do you remember songs? Like Kishore kumar didn't forget the night jasmine from the dreams, a guerdon for brightening sunrise afterwards. Like Chris Martin fixing hypnotized skies. Like Papon tying knots of broken hearts. Like Lata ji mending rhythms of identities for eternity. Like One direction stealing crushes and making you fall in love with yourself. Like Amrinder Gill nourishing flavors of eyes. Like Rehman making you high on life. Like Adele talking virtually beyond continents and oceans. Like Jagjit ji making potion of heart breaks. Do you remember those lyrics, or are you just addicted to feeling of background? Like jumbling rhyming essence of OG songs. Like humming beats just to catch the crowd.   <Places-People-Places> Places, or a blurry reminder? What do I call? I remember so many instances, from books, movies, poems, social gathering, an evening walk, even dreams, that I can't undo relating with people associated with those. Whenever I see my house's front verandah, it relates me to innocent childhood days, waiting for 4pm signal to play. Whenever my friend sees dusty journal of monthly expense, of last 15 years, in her mother's handwriting, it reminds her the struggles related to it. Whenever people listen about typhoon, they relate the scenarios with digital details on news. Whenever couples see those deciduous bushes of chinese snowball or hydrangea shrubs, it reminds them of the times of first love. It is always from both ends. Place reminds of people, people reminds of places, object reminds of people, people reminds of people and so on. It doesn't matter, how you recall phases, count stars alone on roof, or hum unsung songs - you will fall. You ...

Feelings I never came out from Piku movie, as a whole. It reminds the tenderness of relationship between a daughter and a father. No matter, how hard - how bad - their endless recounting of phases starts, it always ends with love and homely existence. My mind just stuck with two prospects, carrying same emotions every time while watching Piku. Happiness that Bhaskor carries, when he pedaled around streets of his hometown, that place, where he nourishes his childhood with fun and nostalgia, where he feel like a young soul, where he paints layers of memories. Even on the edge of his last scene, he enjoys being free, hopping on jalebi, criticizing the surrounding changes. He was happy. A genuine relief of happiness. Calmed stains of growing old. A pure bliss. On the other hand, after his death, Piku feels alone. Crying quietly, beside her Baba belongings. An unfeigned expressions. A hungry look for holding on so many memories, his screams, his irritating lectures, his hone...

Calvin was wide awake, fresh and delighted. He kept aside blanket, and gave a signal to Hobbes "Hey, its Saturday!!! Why are you still sleeping" "Urgh! Yes, its Holiday-Saturday!" - Hobbes brushing aside Calvin's pathetic look. "Ok, I am going! But I will let the monsters do their stuff, inside this bed - only you will be the witness. Don't blame me afterwards " Calvin, pacing slowly towards the door, jumped and started to slide down giant stairs, being the great Spaceman Spiff, landed on sofa, and switched on TV. It was 5 O'clock in the morning. His favorite Dinosaur story was playing on the screen. "I am back. I don't want you to be alone, and feel pity about yourself, watching these stupids" "I knew, Tigers are afraid of monsters. HAHA" "Don't You have drawing classes today?" "Yes. But I will not go. Today is my day. Inks and pages should be far away at least. Oh, we can certainly make snow man fa...

Book Review #6: "A Bowl of Soul Curry" by Romila Chitturi

Image
As the name suggests, this piece is an oriented curry of fictional panorama shots. The book is categorized into two sections-prose and poems. Prose are the instigator of varied worlds and author has immensely covered outstanding prospects. She curated daily conversations, random thoughts, thriller and suspense, mundane chores, dusted imaginations, observed facts and fictions, timely coincidences, fearful overcomes, friends and families, and many more clips from her research. This marked an urge to read something between what's more and what's next? Also, the title "A bowl of soul curry" is one of the starters from her secret recipes which garnishes the entire journey of her dark realities. Talking about poems, every piece is strategically placed, with sequence and with highest authorities of judgements and consequences. No one will ever be bored of any piece, that is hanged from the fruitful tree of abundant treasures. I specially liked few poem sections, where the ...

Book Review #5: "Einstein's Dreams" by Alan Lightman

Image
This is the masterpiece of classics, over all worlds of time. This is my first read of Alan Lightman, and I think I found my favorite genre. Yes, I was literally hanging around, among different genres till now, picking up everything, tossing over all perceptions and calculations of liking factors. I have read few pieces earlier, e.g. How to Stop Time by Matt Haig, The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, etc. But after this, I am obsessed! Author has set the boundaries of time, in an infinite possibility of universe. The one which you can imagine, the one which you will never imagine but pulled along with it, and the one you do not want to imagine! This is an arranged form of dreams, with hypothesis of time. Alan has squeezed the gist of time, with Einstein’s relativity of his one of the patent work dimensions. Talking about the contents, Alan has depicted more than 30 types of assumptions and existence of time. These short stories are not restricted to the person or...

Oh moony dreams! You were so pure wandering in the neighborhoods, puffing flickers and crackers across 15th street. I see you now approx.  zillion light years away from 1999, when I started to ride bicycle handling knowledge and toys, light-hearted and fun-drunk where poems were meant to be rhyming, strictly and friends used to share half-bitten chocolates with my witty Hobbes. Where dreaming for pennies was a dream. candies, balloons, pens, kaju-kishmish, and the front farms were charming spot for infantile meetings. I saw you in my loony discussions with Shaktiman and magic pencil, on nimbus 2000, flying high catching fireflies, kites and aero planes. Oh cloudy dreams! I loved the way, you came every night some i remembered, some i forgot but you were the only constant, that's for sure! For more, follow me on instagram
